Analytics with full data ownership.

Web analytics in your own hands – with Matomo

Not every store wants to, or is allowed to, hand its analytics data to a US service. The OPAL connects your OXID store to Matomo, the most widely used self-hostable analytics solution: every store event, from product view to purchase, goes to your own Matomo instance.

What the OPAL solves for you

Everything important tracked automatically: product views, cart, purchases and store search flow automatically into your Matomo reports – no manual setup.

Data in your hands: Matomo runs self-hosted or with an EU hosting provider – the raw data stays in an infrastructure you choose yourself.

Privacy-friendly: cookieless operation and consent control are freely configurable – the analytics follow your requirements.

Prerequisite

Requires the OPAL Tracking Framework

The Matomo Integration builds on the OPAL Tracking Framework, which supplies the store events. The same framework is the shared foundation for other tracking OPALs.

Part of the OPAL family

OPALs are building blocks from OXID eSales: a proven, solid foundation that needs to be adapted to your system landscape and integrated into your store.

Features at a glance

Every store event tracked automatically

Product view, cart, purchase and store search are passed to Matomo automatically – you do not need to build anything in by hand.

Accurate cart data

With every change, the complete, current cart is sent to Matomo – with or without a page reload. That way your reports match what the customer actually has in the cart.

Works without JavaScript too

Page views are tracked even when JavaScript is disabled in the browser – these visitors are counted as usual.

Configurable per subshop

Matomo address and site ID can be set per subshop, and individual events can be switched off per subshop.

Built-in privacy switches

Required consent, cookie-only consent, cookieless operation and respecting "Do Not Track" can be configured independently. The OPAL deliberately does not include a consent banner – instead, it provides a documented interface through which your existing consent tool controls the switch.

Optionally via Matomo Tag Manager

Instead of the direct tracker, you can embed a Matomo Tag Manager container. The tracked events are the same in both modes.

Who is the OPAL for?

E-commerce manager

You are responsible for the online store and want to keep the analytics data in your own hands.

What the OPAL delivers here

Matomo runs self-hosted or with an EU hosting provider – the raw data stays in an infrastructure you choose yourself, with full access and deletion according to your rules. Cookieless operation and respecting "Do Not Track" are configurable.
