Fewer decisions in the checkout.
The right shipping method – already preselected
In the checkout, customers often face several shipping options and have to choose themselves – that takes time and creates uncertainty. The OPAL preselects the right shipping method based on the postcode and your rule, and explains to the customer why. A suggestion, not a lock: customers can switch at any time.
What the OPAL solves for you
The right shipping method suggested: instead of a list, the customer gets the shipping method that fits their postcode preselected in the checkout.
You decide what "best" means: cheapest, fastest, most sustainable – or a forced method, per postcode range.
Transparent, no pressure: a notice explains the preselection, and the customer can switch at any time.
Part of the OPAL family
OPALs are building blocks from OXID eSales: a proven, solid foundation that needs to be adapted to your system landscape and integrated into your store.

Preselection by postcode and rule
In the checkout, a shipping method is preselected based on the delivery postcode and your store rule – always only from the methods available in the current context. Without a postcode or without a matching rule, the default behavior of your store remains in place.
You define the goal
Cheapest, fastest, most sustainable or a forced method. What "fastest" and "most sustainable" mean, you maintain via attributes per shipping method – delivery time and sustainability rating – in the backend.
Fine-grained postcode rules
Rules as an exact value, as a prefix or as a numeric range, optionally limited to one country. This lets you treat islands, remote areas or metropolitan areas differently without rebuilding your shipping configuration.
Clear priority
If several rules apply, the priority decides – deterministic and traceable, not the order in which they were entered.
A transparent notice, not a mandate
A notice in the checkout states the reason for the preselection – for example "cheapest option" or "fastest delivery". If the customer changes the choice, the notice disappears and their decision stays.
Reacts to address changes
If the customer changes the address, the preselection is determined again. A different choice the customer has already made is not silently overwritten.
Who is the OPAL for?
E-commerce manager
You're responsible for the checkout. Your store offers several shipping methods with regionally different conditions – and customers find it hard to choose.
What the OPAL delivers here
Your customers no longer have to guess which shipping option is right for them: they immediately see a fitting suggestion and get through the checkout faster. For you, that means less hesitation at a point where purchases are often abandoned, and fewer support enquiries. Customers on islands or in remote areas also get the shipping method that really makes sense for them right away.
