OXID controls shipping and payment at country level.
Island surcharge & zones at postcode and state level
The OXID standard controls shipping and payment at country level. For islands or special territories such as the Canary Islands, the Balearic Islands or the German North Sea islands, the Shipping Zones OPAL adds finer-grained rules at postcode and state level.
What the OPAL solves for you
Define zones by postcode pattern (exact/prefix/range) and state – the country is always the frame.
Attach zones to shipping cost rules as include/exclude – “base shipping” + “island surcharge” are two additive rules.
Block payment methods per zone – e.g. cash on delivery for islands, at sub-country level.
Part of the OPAL family
OPALs are building blocks from OXID eSales: a proven, solid foundation that needs to be adapted to your system landscape and integrated into your store.

Define zones flexibly
Per zone, one country plus one or more postcode patterns (exact such as 35001, prefix such as 350, range such as 35000–35999) and optionally states – with an active flag and sort order.
Filter shipping cost rules
Assign zones to OXID shipping cost rules as include or exclude. The rules stack additively with the core: “base shipping” plus “island surcharge” are simply two rules.
Filter payment methods
Hide the relevant payment methods per zone – such as cash on delivery for islands – analogous to the country assignment in the OXID standard, but at sub-country level.
Manageable in the admin area
Zones are maintained in the shop settings; they are assigned via a dedicated tab on the shipping cost and payment method rules. The OPAL acts only as an additional filter – the core shipping logic remains untouched.
Island preset on first activation
Canarias, Baleares, Ceuta, Melilla (ES), Corse (FR), Açores, Madeira (PT), Sicilia, Sardegna (IT), Kriti (GR) and the German North Sea islands (DE) are set up right away as a starting point – fully customisable.
Clear include/exclude semantics
A rule or payment method applies if no relevant exclude zone matches and – if include zones are set – at least one of them matches. Without an assignment, the behaviour remains unchanged.
Who is the OPAL for?
Shop operator / e-commerce manager
You deliver to countries with islands or special territories (Spain, France, Italy, Germany) and need to charge surcharges or restrict payment methods there.
What the OPAL delivers here
You define zones by postcode or state and attach them as a condition to your shipping cost and payment rules. An island surcharge is then simply a second, additive rule; cash on delivery can be hidden specifically for islands. An island preset takes the initial setup off your hands, and OXID standard shipping remains untouched.
