Win back abandoned carts.
Turn abandoned carts back into orders
Not every filled cart turns into an order. The Cart Recovery OPAL detects these abandonments, sends delayed email reminders (with a voucher if you like) and catches visitors with an exit-intent pop-up – a notice window that appears when a visitor is about to leave the page. That way, lost carts become orders.
What the OPAL solves for you
Detect abandonments: the OPAL detects filled carts that have been left behind and assigns them to the right customer.
Remind automatically: delayed reminder emails in several stages, with a voucher incentive and personal greeting if you like – triggered by a cron job.
Catch the exit: a notice window that appears as soon as a visitor is about to leave the page (exit intent) – only when the cart is filled, with your own text and design and an optional voucher.
Part of the OPAL family
OPALs are building blocks from OXID eSales: a proven, solid foundation that needs to be adapted to your system landscape and integrated into your store.

Abandonment detection with a time limit
Cart snapshots are captured automatically; a cart only counts as "abandoned" after a configured inactivity period – not the first time the visitor leaves a page. An ordered cart is marked as "converted", so no further reminder follows.
Assignment & cross-device recognition
Assignment by logged-in customer, visitor ID (cookie) or the email address entered in the checkout. Returning customers are recognized across several devices via customer number/email – without device fingerprinting.
Abandonment reason recorded
The reason is recorded – inactivity timeout, exit intent or failed payment – and controls the subject line and paragraph of the reminder; optionally, each reason can have its own CMS snippet. The reason is also included in the campaign key of the report.
Adaptive sending logic (optional)
Can be switched on optionally: a sending window, a factor based on cart value and a voucher escalation control when and with which incentive a reminder is sent – using fixed rules, without machine learning.
Delayed reminder emails
One or more stages (minutes after the last cart activity), sent via a cron job. The texts are editable as CMS snippets (with a supplied fallback) and contain the cart products, a personal greeting and a one-click link that restores the cart.
Voucher incentive per channel
Email and pop-up can independently generate a fresh single-use voucher from an OXID voucher series or hand out a fixed code (validity follows the series). The pop-up's "To cart" link applies the voucher directly.
Consent & unsubscribe
Reminders only to those who may receive them
Reminder emails legally count as advertising and usually require consent. That is why you decide deliberately who receives them: only customers who have given consent, your existing customers in addition – or everyone, then at your own risk. Every email contains a one-click unsubscribe link, and cookie-based recognition only applies if the visitor has agreed. The legal assessment in each individual case remains your responsibility.
Who is the OPAL for?
Shop operator / Marketing
Customers fill their cart and leave before buying – you never find out and have no channel to bring them back.
What the OPAL delivers here
The OPAL records abandoned carts, sends delayed reminder emails (optionally with a voucher and personal greeting) and catches visitors with an exit-intent pop-up. In the report you see abandonments, recovered orders and which approach works better.
