The environment name also appears as a label in the side navigation of the admin area, so the indicator is present there as well.

A warning icon and a diagonal warning-stripe band clearly set the indicator apart from the browser and store interface.
Freely selectable name and color
Any environment name as text, plus the color presets green, orange and blue or a custom color of your choice.
Set per environment, not in the admin area
Name, color and on/off are set via the configuration file or an environment variable – deliberately not in the admin area. That way the setting cannot be overwritten by accident and is not part of the database backup.
Automatic fallback to the OXID environment
If no custom name is set, the OPAL falls back to OXID's environment setting – a development system automatically shows "dev". A name you set yourself always takes precedence.
